With more and more people driven to be more conscious about their buying power and the impact that their spend has on the environment, we wanted to source a range of club clothing that has a low environmental impact, whilst remaining functional and affordable to our members.

ORGANIC COTTON
It takes 2,700 litres of fresh water to make one t-shirt using traditonal cotton farming methods!
PTC Eco garments are made with 100% organic cotton and with GOTS certification. For us, the most important benefit of this natural fibre is protecting the ecosystem, reducing water wastage and ensuring a safer working environment for the farmers and manufacturers. Organic cotton is a sustainable and Eco-friendly alternative to regular cotton.
Processing traditional cotton uses a large amount of chemicals. Even after washing the finished product, the residue of these harmful chemicals remains and can cause irritations on the skin. Organic cotton uses safer alternatives to chemical dyes and whitening agents. Instead, natural or water-based dyes are used to manufacture the finished goods. Organic cotton is also softer, hypo-allergic and lasts for a long time.
ECOVERO CLOTHING
Our ECOVERO™ clothing range is made from wood pulp, a natural and renewable raw material. The wood is sourced from sustainable forestry plantations which are 100% certified by industry leading associations such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
We found that it generates up to 50% lower emissions and water impact compared to traditionally sourced Viscose products . CO2 emissions and fossil fuel resource usage are cut by half in comparison to the industry average and, unlike artificial fibres, the fabric is made from 100% renewable sources - which makes it fully biodegradable too.
What is wrong with conventional viscose?
- The wood is often sourced from threatened rain-forests
- The raw material is shipped globally causing huge amounts of CO2 emissions
- Toxic hydrogen sulphide/carbon disulphide are used to break down the wood. These gases leak and cause damage to the environment
- A huge amount of energy and water is required during production
- In most cases only 30% of the raw material is used, with the other 70% being thrown away
What makes ECOVERO™ a better choice for PTC?
- Its functional, affordable, performs well and is a great alternative to standard options
- Uses FSC and PEFC certified wood from sustainable forestry plantations
- The wood is sourced locally which cuts CO2 emissions by 50%
- Closed cycle processes ensure all water & chemicals used during production are recycled and re-used
- Only the clean cooling water leaves the cycle, resulting in 50% less energy and water consumption
Whilst not all of the products on offer to club members are made this way, we endeavour to work with brands that are moving towards sustainability. We will continue to search for eco-friendly alternatives and take a sustainable approach, wherever possible. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to get in touch or ask a committee member for further information.
